1. US Stock Futures Fall Across the Board in Asian Trading, Nasdaq 100 Futures Lead Declines

US equity futures extended their risk-off move during Asian trading, with Dow futures down around 0.3%, S&P 500 futures falling about 0.3%, and Nasdaq 100 futures declining roughly 0.5%. Warsh’s stronger emphasis on inflation control and renewed US strikes on Iranian facilities weighed on technology stocks and other highly valued assets.

 

2. Warsh Reinforces Hawkish Stance as Probability of September Fed Hike Rises to 57%

Kevin Warsh said at Jackson Hole that the Federal Reserve may need to take further action if inflation does not clearly move back toward its 2% target. Interest-rate futures showed the probability of a 25-basis-point September hike jumping from around 35% before his remarks to roughly 57%, signaling a significant repricing of the monetary policy outlook.

 

3. US August Payrolls Due Friday, with Only About 58,000 Jobs Expected

The US will release its August nonfarm payrolls report on September 4. A Reuters poll forecasts an increase of around 58,000 jobs, with the unemployment rate holding at 4.1%. After employment unexpectedly fell by 23,000 in July, the report will be one of the most important policy inputs ahead of the September FOMC meeting.

 

4. Dollar Rises Back Above 160 Yen as Bessent Says Moves Remain Orderly

The dollar climbed back above 160 yen as US Treasury yields rose. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said recent moves in the yen have been “fairly controlled” and have not reached disorderly levels. Whether the Bank of Japan raises rates again in September remains one of the key market issues surrounding this week’s G20 meetings.

 

5. US Strikes Iranian Facilities Again in First Known Direct Attack Since Late July

The US military struck two missile-launch facilities on Iran’s Larak Island on Sunday, marking the first known direct US military attack since late July. Iran subsequently announced missile strikes on a US military base in Jordan, renewing the escalation in US-Iran tensions and quickly pushing oil prices higher. Brent crude rose above $90 per barrel, while WTI climbed to $85.

 

6. Bitcoin Retreats After Weekend Rebound Toward $79,000, Holds Near $77,800

Bitcoin briefly approached $79,000 again over the weekend, with CoinMarketCap last showing BTC at around $77,876, up 0.38% over 24 hours. ETH traded near $2,428, up 1.25%. SOL outperformed with a gain of nearly 3% to $102.14, while XRP rose around 2.1% to $1.36.

 

7. Total Crypto Market Cap Holds Around $2.62 Trillion as Sentiment Remains in “Greed”

CoinMarketCap data showed total crypto market capitalization at around $2.62 trillion, up approximately 0.61% over 24 hours. Trading volume stood at roughly $62.45 billion, below levels seen during the recent surge. Bitcoin dominance remained at 59.7%, while Ethereum dominance was 11.2%. The Fear & Greed Index stood at 74, keeping sentiment in “Greed” territory.

 

8. Bitcoin ETFs See $202 Million Net Outflow, Ending Nine-Day Inflow Streak

US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded combined net outflows of $201.9 million on August 28, ending nine consecutive trading days of inflows. The funds had attracted approximately $3.04 billion over the previous nine sessions. Bitcoin simultaneously pulled back toward $78,000, signaling a short-term cooling in institutional flows.

 

9. Ethereum ETFs Defy Trend with $102 Million Inflow, Extending Streak to 10 Days

Unlike Bitcoin ETFs, US spot Ethereum ETFs recorded approximately $102.1 million in net inflows on August 28, marking a tenth consecutive trading day of inflows. Cumulative net inflows into ETH ETFs rose to around $12.9 billion, highlighting a short-term divergence in institutional flows between Bitcoin and Ethereum.

 

10. Saylor Hints Strategy May Resume Bitcoin Purchases for First Time in Nearly Two Months

Michael Saylor posted Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings tracker over the weekend and hinted that a new purchase entry could soon be added. Markets interpreted the post as a signal that the company may resume buying BTC. If confirmed, it would mark Strategy’s first addition to its Bitcoin holdings in nearly two months.
