The United States launched another large-scale round of airstrikes on Iranian targets, saying the operation was aimed at Iran’s efforts to attack US forces and disrupt commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard later said it struck US military facilities in Jordan and Bahrain, while Jordan said most incoming missiles were intercepted.
2. Brent Crude Surges 4.6% in One Day, Breaks Above $95 in Asian Trading
Brent crude settled 4.6% higher on September 1 at $94.65 per barrel, while WTI jumped 5.2% to $90.22, with both benchmarks reaching roughly five-week highs. Prices continued higher in early Asian trading, with Brent briefly reaching $95.52 and WTI climbing to $91.02.
3. US 10-Year Treasury Yield Nears 4.80% as Global Bond Selloff Deepens
The US 10-year Treasury yield rose to around 4.798% in early Asian trading after climbing for a fifth consecutive session, while the 30-year yield approached 5.27%. Long-term government bond yields in Japan, Germany, France and the UK also rose to multi-year highs as global bond markets continued repricing inflation and fiscal risks.
4. All Three Major US Indexes Fall, Nasdaq Drops 1.03%
On September 1, the Dow fell around 419 points to 52,766.88, down 0.79%. The S&P 500 declined 0.71% to 7,631.47, while the Nasdaq dropped 1.03% to 26,099.77. Energy shares outperformed, while technology and consumer discretionary stocks came under pressure as the global bond selloff weighed on markets.
5. Fed Governor Barr Says Rates Should Be Raised “Decisively” if Inflation Fails to Cool
Federal Reserve Governor Michael Barr said US inflation remains too high and that the Fed should act decisively to raise interest rates if incoming data fail to show sufficient easing in price pressures. If inflation is clearly moving toward the 2% target, he said policymakers could allow more time to assess conditions.
6. US Job Openings Rise to 7.271 Million as Hiring Falls Sharply
US JOLTS job openings increased to 7.271 million in July, while the June figure was revised down to 7.182 million. Hiring fell by 278,000 to 5.054 million, while layoffs declined to 1.666 million. Markets are now shifting their attention toward Friday’s August nonfarm payrolls report.
7. Gold Tumbles More Than 2% Overnight, Stabilizes Near $4,330 in Asian Trading
Spot gold fell as much as 2.4% on Tuesday to around $4,342.20 per ounce, while US December gold futures settled 1.9% lower at $4,396.40. Stronger US Treasury yields and a firmer dollar reduced gold’s appeal, with spot prices hovering around $4,329 in early Asian trading.
8. South Korea Proposes 821 Trillion Won 2027 Budget as AI Spending Nearly Doubles
South Korea unveiled a 2027 budget proposal worth approximately 820.9 trillion won, up 12.8% year-on-year, the largest increase on record. Spending on AI projects is planned at 21.3 trillion won, nearly double this year’s 10.8 trillion won, while a 162.3 trillion won “Future Response Fund” will also be established.
9. US Pushes “Light-Touch” AI Regulation at G20, Opposes Additional Rules
The United States promoted the so-called “Carolina Principles” at a G20 technology meeting, calling for a lighter regulatory approach to AI and arguing against creating new rules for issues already covered by existing frameworks. Executives from several major global technology companies also attended the meeting.
10. Bitcoin Falls Toward $77,000, Slips Back Below $80,000
Latest BTCC data showed Bitcoin trading around $77,000, down approximately 2% over 24 hours. Oil prices above $95, US Treasury yields approaching 4.8%, and rapidly rising expectations for a September Fed rate hike weighed broadly on global risk assets, pulling Bitcoin back from above $80,000.
11. Citi, Goldman Sachs and 19 Other Financial Institutions Advance Stablecoin Project
Twenty-one financial institutions, including Bank of America, Citi, Goldman Sachs, UBS, Deutsche Bank and Fidelity, plan to establish a new company in the second half of 2026. The group intends to first launch a US dollar stablecoin for payments and digital-asset settlement, before considering euro and other G7 currency tokens.
12. SEC Proposes Updating Nearly 50-Year-Old Transfer Agent Rules for Blockchain Era
The US SEC proposed revising transfer agent rules first established in the 1970s to account for electronic securities, tokenized assets, distributed ledgers and AI technology. The new framework would update electronic recordkeeping and systems-management requirements while specifically addressing tokenized securities and blockchain data-integrity risks.
13. ARB Surges Nearly 30% Intraday as Robinhood Chain Revenue Hits Record
Robinhood Chain generated more than $2 million in on-chain revenue over the past 24 hours, while daily DEX trading volume had previously reached a record $989 million. Because the chain uses an Arbitrum Dedicated Chain architecture, part of the protocol revenue flows back into the Arbitrum ecosystem, helping drive ARB up nearly 30% at one point.
14. Strategy Has Spent $635 Million Repurchasing STRC Preferred Stock
Strategy has spent approximately $635 million repurchasing STRC perpetual preferred stock, although STRC continues to trade around $97.34, below its $100 par value. The company has also resumed Bitcoin purchases and continues to manage its Bitcoin treasury financing through a multi-layer capital structure involving common and preferred stock.
15. Strategy Formally Opposes MSCI Proposal, Says It Targets Digital Asset Treasury Companies
Strategy submitted a formal response to MSCI opposing its proposed new index eligibility framework for “non-operating asset companies.” MSCI plans additional screening for companies whose operating assets account for less than 50% of total assets. Strategy argues that the framework could unfairly exclude digital asset treasury companies.
