Korea to Invest 4.52 Trillion Won Next Year in Physical AI, Semiconductors, and Data Centers

Odaily News: South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Science and ICT will invest 4.5217 trillion won next year to advance three major projects: physical AI, semiconductors, and data centers. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will allocate 3.7261 trillion won, while the Ministry of Science and ICT will allocate 795.6 billion won.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will invest 762.8 billion won to promote AI transformation in manufacturing, covering data acquisition at manufacturing sites, development of AI foundation models, deployment of domestic humanoid robots, and building an ecosystem for key components and materials equipment; an additional 1.5541 trillion won will support semiconductors, and 43 billion won will be used for AI data center technology and talent development.

The Ministry of Science and ICT will invest 133.7 billion won in physical AI to develop a general-purpose physical AI foundation model and conduct logistics pilot projects with Korea Post; 135 billion won and 222.9 billion won will be allocated to semiconductors and data centers, respectively, including the construction of a 10-megawatt AI data center testbed.
