Are open campuses a good idea?

As someone with a keen interest in education and its impact on society, I must pose the question: are open campuses truly a viable and beneficial concept? While proponents argue that they foster a sense of community and inclusivity, allowing students to freely roam and interact with their surroundings, critics contend that they compromise safety, security, and the overall learning environment. How do we balance these competing interests? Could open campuses be redesigned or implemented in a way that addresses these concerns, while still retaining their intended benefits? Or are they, in fact, a flawed concept that needs to be reevaluated entirely?
