Billionaire venture capitalist Tim Draper has issued a stark warning to global markets, predicting that the US dollar could face a catastrophic collapse while Bitcoin 'goes infinite' in value. In a bold statement that has sent ripples through the crypto sphere, Draper reaffirmed his aggressive price target of $250,000 per BTC, arguing that surging institutional adoption and fundamental cracks in the legacy financial system are paving the way for the digital asset's unprecedented ascent.

Draper sees rising adoption and potential financial upheaval

Draper shared his views on X, pointing to the accelerating use of Bitcoin payments. He stated that the adoption trend could progress to the point where businesses initially say, “We accept Bitcoin,” and eventually move to, “We only accept Bitcoin.” Draper argued this pattern could trigger a widespread run on banks and fundamentally alter the financial landscape.

He concluded that under such conditions, Bitcoin could “go infinite against the US dollar,” indicating a total collapse of fiat currency value relative to Bitcoin if current trends persist.

Bitcoin’s adoption may advance so far that merchants first accept—and then require—Bitcoin for payments, resulting in a banking crisis and a transformed global financial system.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin payment infrastructure continues to expand. In March, Block, the Jack Dorsey-founded fintech firm behind Square, began automatically enabling Bitcoin payments for eligible US-based Square sellers. This initiative is expected to reach millions of merchants.

Draper’s Draper Innovation Index, a barometer of entrepreneurial and innovation-friendliness among US states, recently indicated an improvement in the business climate for crypto firms. Texas moved up to fourth place in the national ranking as of March 2026, while Oklahoma rose to fifteenth, with both states benefiting from increased cryptocurrency and blockchain investment.

Technological risks dismissed as Bitcoin adoption grows

Draper has largely dismissed concerns over technical threats to Bitcoin. In June, he asserted that advances in quantum computing would likely compromise traditional banking systems before posing a serious risk to Bitcoin’s security.

He has compared the shift from banks to Bitcoin with the historical replacement of horses by automobiles, framing the transition as inevitable given accelerating adoption and technological innovation.

Price targets and Bitcoin’s performance history

Despite advocating for a scenario where Bitcoin could go “infinite,” Draper emphasized the cryptocurrency faces a more immediate challenge in reaching $250,000. He renewed this prediction in April, forecasting Bitcoin could achieve this target in 18 months, citing continued adoption and the declining value of traditional fiat currencies as primary factors.

Tim Draper continues to predict that Bitcoin will hit $250,000, though the path from about $64,000 involves a climb of nearly 290%.

Draper has made several high-profile predictions regarding Bitcoin’s trajectory. In 2014, he correctly anticipated that Bitcoin would breach $10,000 within a few years. However, his more ambitious target of $250,000 has seen multiple deadline extensions—from 2022 to subsequent years—including the most recent timeline aiming for late 2025 or early 2026.

As of Wednesday, Bitcoin trades under $64,000, far below Draper’s forecasted milestone. Achieving the $250,000 target would require the cryptocurrency to surge nearly 290% from its current level.
