House rejects crypto package containing the GENIUS Act despite Trump urging progress

Washington draws battle lines as lawmakers reject landmark crypto legislation—despite direct pressure from former President Trump.

Regulatory roadblock: The failed package included the controversial GENIUS Act, which aimed to streamline digital asset oversight. Now, the industry faces prolonged uncertainty.

Political theater meets fintech: While DC debates, traders shrug—another day, another delayed crypto framework. Meanwhile, Bitcoin whales keep stacking sats like politicians stack empty promises.

Crypto Package Setback on July 15

House leaders brought GENIUS to the floor one day after members rejected a rule that bundled the three digital asset measures with the annual defense appropriation.

President Donald TRUMP urged Republicans on Truth Social on July 15 to support the combined rule, writing that passage would keep the United States “lightyears ahead” of China and Europe on digital asset policy.

Libertarian‑leaning and House Freedom Caucus members objected to the bundling and pressed for stand‑alone debate time.

Representative Chip Roy told reporter Laura Weiss he wants “a hard ban” on a US central bank digital currency and ranked the CLARITY Act as equally important. He said opponents “need to be dealing with this all at once.”
