Sensex, Nifty recover from day’s lows; auto stocks shine on festive demand, IT stocks dip over H-1B visa worries

Indian markets pulled off a stunning reversal Tuesday as benchmark indices clawed back from early losses in a session that highlighted stark sectoral divides.

Auto Sector Ignites

Automobile stocks raced ahead on turbocharged festive demand, leaving bears in the dust as showrooms reported record footfall. The seasonal buying spree injected fresh momentum into a sector that's been stuck in neutral for months.

IT Bloodbath

Meanwhile, technology stocks got hammered as H-1B visa restrictions spooked investors. The sector bled value throughout the trading session with no relief in sight—apparently Silicon Valley's appetite for global talent has limits when election season heats up.

Market analysts watched the bipolar trading action with raised eyebrows. "You've got one sector celebrating Diwali early while another faces its own version of visa purgatory," noted one trader. "It's the kind of divergence that makes you wonder if anyone actually reads the economic tea leaves anymore."

Top gainers & losers today

Adani Enterprises, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Finance, Eicher Motors, IndusInd Bank and M&M led the gainers of Nifty 50. On the flip side, UltraTech Cement, Nestle India, Trent, Tech Mahindra and Grasim Industries traded as major laggards.

On the National Stock Exchange, a total of 3,012 stocks were traded, of which 1,179 stocks advanced, 1,725 declined and 108 remained unchanged.

Nearly 91 stocks such as Ashok Leyland, Eicher Motors and Maruti, scaled to 52-week high, while 37, including Route Mobile and Praj Industries, hit their 52-week low. Additionally, 66 stocks such as E2E Networks and Revathi Equipment hit the upper circuit and 42 hit the lower circuit.

Midcap & smallcap movers

Under the midcap segment, Vodafone Ida, AU Small Finance, Ashok Leyland, MRF and MFSL soared 2-5 per cent. ATGL, Bharat Dynamics, Mphasis, Coforge and M&M Financial declined 2-4 per cent.

Smallcap stocks KEC International, GSPL, Hindustan Copper, Kaynes Tech and PNB Housing gained 3-4 per cent, while Godfrey Phillips, Aditya Birla Fashion, Five-Star, IFCI and Delhivery depreciated 2-3 per cent.

On the BSE, Refex rallied 17 per cent. GMDC, IIFL CAPS, Greaves Cotton and Gujarat State Petronet zoomed 4-9 per cent. SpiceJet shares depreciated by 6 per cent. Kesoram, LT Foods, ATGL and Adani Power fell by 4-4.5 per cent,
