Bipartisan Senators Meet Tuesday on Clarity Act: Will Trump Derail Altseason 2026?
Washington's crypto showdown kicks off this week. A rare bipartisan group of senators convenes Tuesday to hammer out the long-awaited Clarity Act—legislation that could finally define the regulatory playing field for digital assets.
The Regulatory Reckoning
For years, the industry has operated in a gray zone. The Clarity Act aims to cut through the fog, potentially bypassing the SEC's contentious 'regulation by enforcement' approach. The meeting's outcome could dictate whether 2026 becomes the altcoin renaissance or another year of regulatory purgatory.
The Trump Wildcard
All eyes are on the White House. President Trump's stance remains the market's biggest unknown—a single tweet or executive order could delay the anticipated altseason, sending traders scrambling back to their 'safe' blue-chip spreadsheets. Because nothing says financial innovation like waiting for a 3 AM tweet to determine your portfolio's fate.
The clock is ticking. Tuesday's closed-door discussions will either pave a highway for crypto's next bull run or set up another roadblock. The market holds its breath.
The United States Senate has opened its 2026 session on a high note for crypto’s Clarity Act. Discussions on how to regulate the vast altcoin market have gained traction in the Senate amid the rising political tension in the country, especially after the capture of President Nicolas Maduro from Venezuela.
Senate Bipartisan Efforts on Crypto Legislation Gain Momentum
According to First Squawk, a bipartisan group of senators will meet on Tuesday, January 6, 2025, to discuss crypto market structure. The reported bipartisan Senate efforts on crypto have aligned with other reports, which have inclined to January for markups.
After the United States Senate failed to make a resolution in 2025 on the Clarity Act, the momentum has shifted in 2026. In December 2025, David Sacks, the White House A.I. and crypto czar, announced the commitment of a Senate bipartisan effort to pass the crypto market structure legislation in January 2026.
What’s the Expected Market Impact
The expected market impact of the ongoing crypto legislation is catalyzing bullish sentiment. Furthermore, institutional investors proliferated into Bitcoin (BTC) and ethereum (ETH) through the respective spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) after their approval last year.
According to Bull Theory, the low investors’ risk appetite, which was experienced during the fourth quarter of 2025, will change in 2026 once President TRUMP signs into law the Clarity Act. With the ALT/BTC pair still hovering in oversold levels, in the weekly timeframes, Bull Theory analysts have supported an altseason in 2026.

At press time, the CoinMarketCap’s Altcoin Season Index hovered around 22/100, which shows liquidity inflow to crypto is still inclined to Bitcoin although the tide is gradually changing. The expected passing of the Clarity Act in the Senate will be the holy grail catalyzed of the 2026 altseason.
